We continually look for ways to improve product packaging by using more sustainable materials, reducing content, and decreasing the use of plastic packaging when feasible. Many of our eco-friendly packaging solutions include renewable or recycled content or are derived from sustainable resources.

We work hard to reduce packaging materials without compromising product quality or safety. Our goal is to achieve 50% sustainable material use for our proprietary products by 2030.

For the latest information on our sustainable packaging options, see the most recent Impact Report.

Packaging from Sustainable Resources

We continue to explore using more sustainable materials in our product packaging (e.g., those composed wholly or in-part from post-consumer recycled content (PCR)), reducing resource consumption, waste generation and pollution associated with food packaging, while keeping our offerings at the peak of freshness.

Innovating with Plant-Based Plastic

Introduced plant-based fountain straws used for cold dispensed beverages. The new straw material is derived from raw materials such as corn and may avoid up to 1 million pounds of petroleum-based plastic per year.

Reimagining the Fountain Cup

Introduced a new, lighter weight fountain cup that uses less plastic. The change may avoid up to 1.1 million pounds of virgin plastic annually.

Promoting Sustainable Procurement

We’re committed to working with suppliers toward a goal of sourcing 100 percent cage-free eggs for all U.S. and Canada stores by 2025, based on available supply.

*At the time of publication, 2024 year-end cage-free egg data verification and goal evaluation is underway.
